Classroom Procedures and Policies
Computer procedures follow our school wide procedures of being safe, responsible and respectful. A few additions specific to the computer lab are:
1. No food or drink
2. Students will only touch their computer, they can help each other by telling and pointing, not touching.
3. Students will tell a trusted adult if anything on their computer makes them feel sad, scared or confused.
4. All 5th grade students will log in under their own user id and password.
5. All students will only go to their own work. Any student found working/changing another student's work will automatically receive a write up.

Calm Down Area
This year I will have a calm down area in my classroom. This area is for students who need to take a break because of behavior or some other reason. While in the calm down area the student may choose a task from different cards. Such as deep breathing, hugging a stuffed animal or writing about what is happening. They may take up to 5 minutes in this area. Students will only be allowed one visit to the area per class. If they are unable to calm down after going to the calm down area the teacher and student will meet to discuss further options and they may lose points for that class period. Students who are found abusing the area will not be allowed to visit until I have the opportunity to talk with their parents/guardians. I am hoping this area will be a positive experience for students. For major behavior offensives students will be referred to the office.
Grading Policy
At the beginning of each semester all students will receive behavior/participation points . The teacher will observe for participation/behavior throughout the class and deduct points as necessary. If the student loses 3 points and continues to show inappropriate behavior they will receive a write up. This is worth half of their grade.
In addition to their behavior/participation points, students will receive activity points. Each activity will include a rubric which all students will have access to. Throughout the activity the teacher will refer students back to the rubric. At the end of each activity the teacher will use the rubric to grade their work. All assignments will need to be completed by the due date.
All study materials and rubrics will be posted on the Google Classroom page. Please let me know if you need help accessing this information.

Other
Students are required to work on their assignments while in computer class. They may access their work from any computer including home computers with parent permission if they feel they would like to work at home. Students who finish their assignments early will still be required to work on computers during class. The teacher will provide additional activities for students.
